🔥 VOTE FOR MALCOLM COONEY – OUR LEGEND OF THE TONGS! 🔥
Being named a Legend of the Tongs is no small achievement, and Mal Cooney is someone who deserves every bit of recognition for his incredible contribution to BDFNC, from Umpiring and coaching various grades of netball teams in the past, to helping across both the male and female footy teams (was even bar manager at one stage!) this legend never stops! Mal also donates his time to the Lyndoch cricket club and spent some years helping the Barossa District Basketball Club!
For years, Mal has been behind the BBQ, helping raise much-needed funds while bringing people together and playing a huge part in building the strong, welcoming community we have today.
Now, Mal has the chance to take it one step further and become one of two public-voted finalists for the 2026 Bunnings Community Choice – Legend of the Golden Tongs!
The finalists will win a trip to the 2026 Toyota AFL Grand Final in Melbourne, with the ultimate Legend of the Golden Tongs also winning $25,000 in Bunnings products and materials for their club!
👉 Now it’s our turn to get behind Mal!

The club would like to send their condolences to the Smith family.
Angie was a wonderful contributor to the Barossa District Football & Netball Club over many years. She could often be found around the club helping with dinners, organising auctions, lending a hand wherever needed, and always proudly supporting her son and daughter.
Angie and her family were also incredible supporters of our club through their generous sponsorship and their family business (Smith Bros Transport), always willing to put their hand up and help whenever they could.
Her presence, generosity and contribution to our club community will be deeply missed.
From everyone at the Barossa District Football & Netball Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Ivan, Kellie and David, and to all of Angie’s extended family and friends.
This coming Saturday, August 22nd, the club is hosting its annual ladies day event. Whether you’re a Mum, Grandmother, Player, Volunteer or Friend, we want to celebrate you! Enjoy a day of drinks and laughter up on the pavilion while watching a great display of sport.
